Local con artists go for the big score in a high stakes card game.
Local con artists decide to rig a card game and go for the big score against a high roller. They partner with a local gangster in order to make it happen and drama ensues.
Sylvester Stallone, Jamie Foxx, Melanie Griffith, Gabriel Byrne.
A predictable and fun poker-themed crime drama featuring a solid cast. This movie features all of the traditional elements of gambling related crime-dramas: mobsters, con-men, greed, violence etc. It’s basic, and a bit derivative, but utterly watchable and certainly worthy of your time. Maybe I’m just a sucker for crime movies, but this film won me over despite it’s flaws because of a fun script and entertaining premise. I also thoroughly enjoyed Sylvester Stallone in this role.
Predictable, cliche and full of unauthentic poker moments. Acting feels a bit wooden at times and the dialogue could use some work.
This film massively fails as a pure poker movie, but fortunately it works moderately well as a generic crime action/drama. Just try and ignore the shitty poker and enjoy the ride.
Watching poker is great, but wouldn’t you rather be playing? Play free poker.
