David ‘Doc’ Sands turned to online poker full time when he realized it was more profitable and provided a better quality of life than his ‘real’ job in San Francisco.  He hit the spotlight in 2011 when he made a deep run in the WSOP Main Event with his then girlfriend and now wife, Erika Moutinho (he finished in 30th, she finished in 29th).  In 2014 Sands announced his ‘retirement’ from poker in order to go to work for a hedge fund, but he can still be found from time to time on the tournament scene.  His most recent cash came in August of 2017 when he final tabled the WPT Legends Main Event in Los Angeles (7th place for $76k).
