5 Pros To Look Out For

Yesterday we looked back at some of the biggest winners at last year’s series, but we can’t live in the past forever! Let’s take a look at 5 pros who will be in Malta this year looking for EPT glory.

(The European Poker Tour is a very prestigious poker tournament series with annual events in several European locations.  The series comes to Malta this month with two weeks of tournaments ranging in buy-in from €200 to €25,000.  Many of the world’s top professionals will be there fighting for glory and riches.  I’ll be there as well, reporting on the action and playing an event or two myself)

Yesterday we looked back at some of the biggest winners at last year’s series, but we can’t live in the past forever.  Let’s take a look at 5 pros who will be in Malta this year looking for EPT glory:

Jaime Staples, Canada

Jaime is famous for his Twitch stream.  He plays mid to high takes online and has a huge following due to his exuberant and friendly persona (along with strategic insight of course).  If you haven’t checked out his stream I highly recommend doing so, as there’s really no better place to feel the emotional ups and downs, excitements and heartbreaks of a full time online poker grinder.  Personally I’m looking forward to checking out Jaime’s live game and seeing if he can bring some of that stream magic to the 3-dimensional felt.

Parker Talbot (aka ‘Tonkaaaa’), Canada

‘Tonkaaaa’ is another hugely popular Twitch streamer looking to bring his online magic to Malta. As I’ve written before, I’m a huge fan of his stream as he does a great job of sharing his thought process with his viewers.  He is a regular winner at the highest stakes online but doesn’t have a huge amount of experience in large buy-in live events.  His biggest live win came a few months back at EPT Barcelona where he took 7th in the €25,000 event for €160,080.

Charlie Carrel, UK

Charlie burst onto the EPT stage in 2014 and has been a consistent winner ever since.  He has 18 career cashes in EPT events, including 6 final tables, and 3 tournament titles.  His biggest win came in the €25,000 EPT Monte Carlo high roller in 2015, when he shipped 1st place for €1.1 million.  He’s coming off an EPT Barcelona that saw him cash only one tournament, so you know he’ll be focused in Malta.  I’m predicting big things for this EPT boss.

Nick Petrangelo, USA

Petrangelo is an elite poker pro with more nearly $6 million in live cashes.  He took 3rd place in last year’s EPT Malta €25,000 high roller event for €232,000, and I’m sure he’ll be looking for similar results this year.  He’s had a good 2016 so far, binking first in the €10,000 event at EPT Barcelona for €413,000 just two months ago.

Johnny Lodden, Norway

Johnny Lodden is another EPT boss looking to continue his success in Malta.  He has 29 career EPT cashes including 6 final tables 1 tournament title.  His biggest career win came at EPT Monte Carlo in 2013 when he took home €467,000 for 3rd place in the €10,000 Main Event.  With no final tables and only 3 ‘small’ cashes at EPT Barcelona in August, I think Johnny’s due for a big run in Malta.
